Getting to Ithaca

By air

Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport (ITH), a 10-minute drive to campus, has several daily connections to Newark (New York City), Philadelphia, and Detroit.

There are also three other airports within an hour's drive (Elmira: ELM, Syracuse: SYR, Binghamton: BGM), offering additional routing and scheduling options. To reach Ithaca from the Syracuse airport, you can take the Ithaca Airline Limousine.

These airports provide connections for international and domestic flights through international airports in New York City (JFK, ERW), Washington Dulles, Philadelphia, Detroit, Chicago, and Atlanta.

Airport shuttles are available from many hotels, and the local TCAT (Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit) bus runs between the airport and downtown (see below).

By bus

There are several companies offering regular bus service between Ithaca and New York City

An express bus, Campus-to-Campus, runs several times a day between New York City and Cornell's Ithaca campus (approximately $90 each way).

Both ShortLine and Greyhound also have several buses a day. ShortLine offers an Ithaca Platinum bus route from NYC to Ithaca, running seven days a week (approximately $50 one-way).

A new express bus service, Big Red Bullet, now connects Ithaca to New York City ($55 one-way from Monday to Thursday, and $65 one-way from Friday to Sunday).

By car

Ithaca is about a four hour drive from New York City and Philadelphia, and a six hour drive from Boston, Washington, D.C., and Montreal.

Parking is available at all hotels, and on-campus parking is also available for a fee.

By rail

Several of the local hotels operate airport shuttles which upon request will provide limited transportation to the Cornell campus or downtown eating areas.

By bus
-
Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT) buses serve Ithaca, the Cornell campus, and the surrounding area.

Tickets may be purchased on the bus (exact change required); one-way fare is $1.50 within greater Ithaca.

Route 10, as well as Routes 30 and 31, frequently connect Cornell's campus to downtown, while Route 32 travels between downtown, campus, and the airport. Route 67 stops at Buttermilk Falls State Park, with hiking, swimming and picnicking. Summer schedules for 2017 are available here.

On foot

Ithaca is a very walkable city, but a steep hill (+/- 500 feet in elevation) separates the downtown from Cornell's campus.

In good weather, the Cascadilla Gorge Path offers scenic views and waterfalls en route to campus.

The walk from downtown to campus takes from 20 - 30 minutes, depending on your starting point and pace.

Taxis in Ithaca can be ordered by phone from several cab companies; however, they often involve a wait for pickup.
